I’m a dad, but I understand how moms would feel if someone questions how they feed their babies—and where.
One site, HeliumKnowledge.com, asked a somewhat similar question. I posted the following answer, quick retorts that would hopefully shut up critics of public breastfeeding:
• Tell them you’re willing to switch to bottle-feeding if they’re willing to clean your baby’s poop during bouts of diarrhea. Babies who are breastfed are less likely to suffer from diarrhea, allergies, bronchitis, ear infections, meningitis, pneumonia, vomiting and wheezing.
• Tell them they should try breastfeeding themselves. If they do, you explain, they could finally solve their weight problem as breastfeeding burns up to 500 calories a day.
• Obviously, you tell them, they have no idea how sexy models—like you—think (or how to train a basketball superstar). Demi Moore breastfed. So did Michael Jordan’s mom.

Thanks for the link, Tracey! I can't believe women are getting ticketed for breastfeeding! I'm curious...are there parts of the country where breastfeeding is considered totally normal and natural and nobody blinks if you start nursing your baby? I'm thinking California, maybe? I'm in the Midwest, so maybe attitudes are a little more uptight here. And obviously New York is not a breastfeeding-friendly place to be.
I don't think Houston is very breastfeeding friendly either. I knew only a few women who did and once I got a complaint from a Barnes and Noble employee for breastfeeding my son in my hot car in their parking lot. I wasn't all hanging out either.
I feel like the top of my boob, if that, is more respectable than the teenagers across the street who wear see through shirts and thong bathing suits to wash their car. I even saw a teenage boy walking to school the other day with his pants so low I saw his entire butt, no joke. If thats ok, then breastfeeding should be ok every where. Oh gee, don't get me started.
I've never had any issues with it, and I'm in Illinois. So when I read articles and watch clips like this, I'm just flabbergasted.
I didn't see an article about a lady getting ticketed for breastfeeding ... only a video clip of moms banding together for the NYC subway - was that the same thing? The video wouldn't play for me - it was choppy, but I'll try again later.
I do agree it's ridiculous to get tickted for breastfeeding - it's feeding your baby for crying out loud!
Oh goodness. I had not seen that!!! Thanks for the link!
Oi. I can't believe women have been ticketed on subways. I had no idea. Thanks for posting it and keeping us in the know. I'm just unable to get over the fact that this is such an issue with people.
I did not know about this but I think its sad. Why don't men get tickets for wearing their pants way below their but cracks or girls walking around at the beach in thongs and tops that barely cover their nipples. Isn't breastfeeding a natural, nurturing thing
