5 Hours of Cousin-Time

Little Niece arrives at 12:00 for a special summertime sleepover. There is much giggling and bouncing involved in the drop-off process.

My sister leaves and we pack up goggles and apple slices to hit our neighborhood pool. It is, after all, 95 degrees.

2 hours at the pool and many sessions of "Watch me! Watch me jump/handstand/randomly splash!" later and we head home for popsicles.

A fort is built out of blankets and snacks are consumed within it.

The Candyland DVD game is played.

The dog is chased.

Mancala is explained and played repeatedly.

"Let's run through the sprinkler!"

I manage to catch them on video dancing and singing to "I'm Sexy and I Know It" while they are shaking their butts in the sprinkler. I also manage to escape their screamy-drippy chase once they realize I have them on film.

Chalk pictures.

More popsicles.

Discussions about the s'mores they're going to make and movie they're going to watch occupy the air around me as our dinner cooks while they munch from a leftover veggie tray.

This has all happened before 6:00...

It is eerily quiet right now and I can only wonder where the two are...

My kids have no cousins, but my sister is in the process of adopting a child from Haiti. I can't wait to be an aunt.
