Had to vs. Get to

This morning I "had to":

bake and frost cupcakes

review the area of a circle with a reluctant 12 year old

assist my daughter in the construction of a get well card for my dad (minor surgery today)

wash 1001 dishes

and figure out how to pay a bill that we had put off.

A phone call can alter everything....

This afternoon, I am remembering how lucky I am to be ABLE TO

be with my kids all day long

breathe in and out without any pain

live for the moment right here, right now.

My dad is recovering and everything is looking good but someone very special to us is having tests and procedures. I am pausing in everything I've considered important lately...

I am glad your Dad is recovering, and I hope and pray that Someone Special is all right, too. Best wishes to everyone involved...

Hope that good news comes soon. It's scary how tenacious our grip on "normal" is, isn't it?

Glad about your dad.

I hope your dad feels better soon. It sounds like your dishwasher is still broken- have you looked into getting a working used one off Craigslist? Our old apartment in Joliet didn't have a dishwasher, so we bought a portable one for under $100 off craigslist a couple of years ago We sold it for $75 last fall, on Craigslist when our dumbass landlords went into foreclosure and we had to move. It was the best $25 I've spend in my entire life! Anyhow, I just checked, and there are a bunch of under-the-counter models selling for $50 or less on the Chicago craigslist site.

Lisa, thanks for the reminder! I think that we'll try the Craigslist idea too.

It is difficult watching our parents....as we grow toward eternity. Sending prayers and happy to see how much fun your birthday was!

A lot of circumstances recently have put things in perspective and made me feel even more grateful for my life, just as it is. I love your distinction of "had to" and "get to." Very helpful.

Absolutely understand. I don't remember that I "get to" do things enough. xo, thinking of those dear to you.
