Yawn....

It was a long night. Evan woke up several times last night, screaming in pain. He said it felt like someone was stabbing him in the stomach... Long story short, I got him to the ER around midnight in the middle of a thunderstorm and flooding roads. He was PETrified of going to the hospital. Absolutely shaking with fear, poor baby... Also, let it be said that Evan has never been a "good patient." He isn't usually the one to be calm and put on a brave face. So when he was brave through the i.v. insertion and then the cat scan later on, I was very proud. Especially when you consider the lack of sleep he's had lately, and that it was 2 am when he had the cat scan.

Luckily, there was no appendicitis, no inflammation, no problem with his blood. He had moderate stool which we're going to use a prescription for today, but I really don't think that that is the issue here. The doctor wasn't sure of it either, but we're going to try this route and see if things get better.

I walked back in my door last night (this morning?) at 4:30 am. My mom had come over in the middle of the night to stay with the other kids, (relieving my neighbor who came over immediately. Thank God for good neighbors!) because Patrick is in Ohio. Of course he's in Ohio! Where else would he be in the middle of a rainstorm when I have to rush a child to the ER? He was really worried, and couldn't do anything about it. I don't know if I had the worse parenting role or if he did last night. I can't imagine knowing that Evan was in the hospital and I couldn't even see him...

Thankfully, he's resting upstairs, peacefully. We will get the pain reliever and softener and see what tonight is like. I was actually in the middle of a painting frenzy when he started crying again, so I am surrounded by a half-painted living room/office. I love the color, and will post the funny pics I had planned on showing you guys last night, before the fun began.

Working on 2 hours of sleep here, so I have to go and lie down while Rinny watches Shrek. Cross some fingers or something that he's ok, would ya?

Poor Evan, and poor Mommy.

EVERYTHING happens when the hubby is away.

I hope you are able to figure out the cause of his pain soon. So many things can bring on abdominal pain.

Get some rest and hug your babies tight!

Oh, Tracey! That sounds so scary for all of you, I'm so sorry. I will keep my fingers, toes, eyes and whatever else you can cross, crossed that Evan is alright! The picture of him sleeping is so sweet and he looks like he is resting pain free, that's good. It's reassuring to know that it's not his appendix at least. My older son Andy went through intestinal/stomach problems when he was younger and had to take Miralax for several years, so I've been through this, if in fact that's the problem. Took him to a pediatric gastroenterologist and he told us that it's very common in young children.

Take care and hope you get some rest. Lizzy

Oh, how scary! I'm so sorry to hear this and I really hope the doctors can figure out what is causing his tummy pain. Must be so hard for you, and for your DH (you know, I think I would rather be there with my sick child and have no sleep than be away and not able to help or see them ... you're right about not knowing who had the hardest job).

I'll say a prayer for Evan, and for you. Get some sleep if you can.

How scary for you and Evan.

I'll pray that things come out okay, literally, and that's the end of it. I know how hard it is not knowing what is wrong.

Oh Tracey, how awful. It's Murphy's Law that your hubby is away too, thank heavens for your neighbor and Mom!

Do you know why he is so constipated? I know you aren't even sure if that is the problem but my older son used to have terrible constipation and when we removed cow's milk from his diet, that all went away. Just a thought. We never got the extent you are at mostly because he was too young to explain what was wrong. I can tell you I have done many a happy dance when he deposited a "specimen" if you know what I mean.

:-)

I hope this is sorted out SOON. Big hugs!

I was just checking out your blog and thought that I would say HI! I hope your little boy is feeling better. My son had the same problem when he was younger and we ended up in the ER as well. Once the stool softener worked he was a different child!

Good luck!

Oh Tracey, it sounds just like what I have gone through the last few weeks. I really believe it is a horrible virus and it will pass but the pain is really bad. If you can get him to eat little things like applesauce or toast it will help with the pain, I've found anyway and tons of water. I'll be praying he gets better soon.
