You know what pisses me off?

Well, a lot of things. But right now? What is really, REALLY making me infuriated??

The notes I keep getting from school. Not regarding my children! Oh no. My kids are fine. Regarding a man in a silver minivan that has been stalking and attempting to pick up children in our town for the past 6 weeks. Seriously. This is the 5th or 6th slip from school that is reporting a police documented incident in which a Caucasian male, 30's, silver minivan has been seen either calling to children, taking pictures of them, or actually getting out of his vehicle and attempting to abduct them.

What am I supposed to do? I am terrified for all of the kids in our town! My kids are personally escorted to and from school every day and are never allowed to roam free, always supervised. But hundreds of kids, especially in that "I'm too old to need protection" age of 10 and up are wandering free, and are encountering this man. This previous incident involved him taking pictures at a school and driving away when approached by the principal! What will happen to our town, to a family, to a child if he actually gets ahold of one of our children?

I will never understand the human brain and its capacity for corruption. I cannot fathom a day in my life where I would ever be able to raise my hand in hatred to want to kill, injure, or abuse someone. Every person, no matter their age, is somebody's baby. Whether they were loved intensely for their entire lives or abused severely or somewhere in between, I cannot understand the ability to break from societal norms. To want to hurt someone's baby...

Perhaps it's because I'm a mother. I know what it takes to grow, birth and raise a child. The sacrifices it means to a woman to love a child so much it can actually knock you down, slap your face, and take away your breath.

Fury and outrage doesn't describe my emotions right now. I am frustrated, sickened, and overwhelmed by the inability to aptly protect my own babies, let alone the world's...

People: please know where your children are. And take the time to see if you've seen these other missing children. Somebody's babies...

Tracey, I would be outraged too. How horrible. And the most ridiculous part, nothing can be done with him until he does actually do something to somebody's baby.

THAT's injustice.

I am glad that you are doing everything you can to protect you babies.

I hope he is put in his place. SOON!

This is just awful. This world we live in is a scary place, and stories like these make me realize how vigilant parents must be to protect our kids from harm.

Good grief.
That's terrifying.

I am outraged to hear this as well. I agree with you on how the human brain can turn to evil actions like you mentioned. It's true that everyone is someone's baby and, a child of God. I hope they catch this preditor and get him locked away soon.

It's so sad. Thank you for sharing this and helping to make people more aware. I hope they catch him.

I can't believe the sick people in this world. I think I would keep my child home until that creep is behind bars.

Ah, but sadly, Kailani, there are too many crazies in the world. We can't lock them up forever...

I guess better that they tell you rather than leaving you in the dark. It is a horrible thing!

We've gotten three very similar letters from our school. Except it has been a different guy each time. Sigh. I don't understand it either. Actually, I don't want to understand it... :S

We've experienced this same thing in the area of our Jr. High. It is scary.

Let's hope they are both caught......quickly!

Wow that is pretty scary! I can't believe as many times as he's been seen that no one has taken is license plate # down.

Michelle, I was saying to PAtrick that even if they HAD gotten his license plate, they probably couldn't DO anything about it, other than keep an eye on him, informally. If he hasn't actually COMMITTED a crime, or been reported to actually BE trying to physically harm a child, is there any legal ground to arrest him? CAN they make a case against somebody just because he has the same color van as somebody that may or may not be following children around? I mean, some of these alleged attempts may actually be false, if the children involved are making them up for attention. You know?

Sigh. It's sad that we can't DO anything until something bad has happened... Of course, I wouldn't want to live in a society that arrests BEFORE the crime is committed. What was that movie called? The one with Tom Cruise where they had psychics in the police force???

Anyone? Bueller?

I understand your fears and frustrations. We too have recieved a similar letter from the school.

I sometimes feel I keep my kids to close and that I may be some how damaging them by not letting them have any freedom. Until I hear stories like this and let my mind wander to dangerous places I think any damage I am doing is nothing compared to the damage done if something unthinkable were to happen.

I can not imagine anything worse. I will keep those families living a nightmare come true in my thoughts.

Very scary!! Hug your babies tight. It's good to know you're taking good care of them.

The thought of things like this happening to my little guy in the future...oh my goodness, it's like a heart attack waiting to happen.
