Just another Thursday

Ahhhhh.... fresh air! We took a nice long walk around the block today, after school. Justin rode his scooter, and Corinne and Evan rode in the wagon. I wasn't sure if she'd sit down the whole time, but after being told "no" once, she sat down and enjoyed the ride (you can imagine my shock!)

Had a lovely discussion with Justin's teacher today. Justin had been lying about his days to me and not bringing home his report sheet that he gets every day. Yeahhh... fun. But have I mentioned how awesome his teacher is this year? I truly am grateful for this man. He's kind, calm, and understanding. He really gets the kids. THANK GOD, cuz Justin is a piece of work.

Went to a playgroup today with my mom's group. Sigh.... I wish I didn't feel so envious of the other women with their gargantuan homes. I have a very lovely home, myself. It's just fine. Nothing wrong with it, and in fact, it's really nice. But it's not a massive house with all new appliances and decorated to the hilt and on and on... You know? It can be hard to squish the envy, sometimes. I had to remind myself that I could have very easily had a house like that: if I had never quit my job, and only had 1 child... Not a very good tradeoff, in my opinion. So, I will be content. And really, I would rather we traveled with any superfluous money than buy a humongous house that I'd have to keep clean!!

Ok, I just had to add this link to PB&J Boats' recording of her son. Keep in mind that they are NOT BRITISH. This child had me rolling on my side!

They may have big houses but do they get twenty comments on their blogs? I think not.

The link was so cute. He sounds just like them.

Houses don't mean anything when it all boils down. It's just "fluff". The real things are your family & the bonds that you share. I say you got a pretty nice trade off. =)

I know what you mean about the house. I live in an affluent area with a lot of upscale houses. We're not poor by any means, but we bought a 'starter' house and since then the real estate marker boomed to the point that altho' we can sell our house at a very nice profit, we really can't afford to buy "up". There are no middle-of-the-road homes. A lot of new development - all $$$$. I remember being at playgroup with my Mom's Club and thinking, gee my whole house could fit in your livingroom. But still, this tiny shoebox of a house has afforded me the oppty to stay home when Son #3 was born and I wouldn't trade that for anything.

Oh yeah, I've watched the clip of Luke doing charlie and lola like a million times since yesterday!! I can't get enough of it! And the Beast loves to watch it!! lOl.

I think you're 3 children are much better than a huge house, and like you said, who wants to clean those places??? Not me!

Thank you SO much for the link! I'm so glad you like our little Luke's Charlie and Lola impersonation!

There is always a cost isn't there? But when your kids are grown, what they will remember is that mom was always there, not what size house you had.

Oh boy I can relate to the house thing. Our home is a row. It's our first home and we moved in the same month I became a SAHM to my twin daughters. I want to be home with them and it's totally worth it to me. But sometimes it's weird to explain to someone that you don't have a dishwasher, or a family room, or a finished basement.

I should also add that we chose to buy a home that we could easily afford after a friend of ours couldn't afford to get their car inspected for three months so they weren't able to drive it. I never wanted to have to decide between paying my mortgage and driving.

We're doing the "less is more" deal so I can be at home with our kids, too. We decided that because Dad is in the military and is gone alot, so one parent needs to just BE THERE. Besides, the military doesn't pay great anyways. All the good stuff comes when he retires (3 years to go!!) and gets a job that does pay decently! I just sit and dream about a HUGE walk in closet. It keeps me going.

Coulda, woulda, shoulda . . .

I coulda had a great job if I woulda graduated nursing school and we shoulda (lol) have paid off all the bills by now!

But, like you said, I would rather be home with my kids and going to some GREAT blog parties than living in a fancy schmancy house that is devoid of personality. We also live in a community where all the newer homes are WAY out of our price range. We're stuck! But between you and me, I like our little 1400 sq ft because we have a FANTASTIC yard and garden. You don't often get great yards and great houses together.

Yes, the cleaning factor is a big, fat, good reason to live in a modest sized home.
