Gone fishing, Eh?

A week of no husband... Sigh. He's with his dad for the week which is loads of fun for him. For the rest of us? Not so much. It could be worse. So, so much worse. He could be gone for longer or not coming back...

But still? Still it kind of stinks to be without him for so long.

And so I begin this strange, brief journey through single parenthood. I've done it before and it's always an adjustment to the psyche. In every shred of my life, no matter how little Patrick is physically available, he is present. But when he's in a cabin in remote Canada, with no cell coverage? Then I am on my own.

Sigh.... At least there'll be lots of fish to eat when he returns. Until then, I'll follow the fortunes in my Dove mini chocolate caramel:

"In chaos there lies opportunity"

"Believe the best in yourself."

"Let chocolate warm your soul." (ABSOLUTELY. No problem.)

"Be a good listener to your friends."

"Remember your first best friend."

"The most enjoyable experiences are often free."

What? So I've had a bunch of chocolates on a lonely Saturday night. What of it?

That's a lot less chocolate than I had this last week with MY husband gone. He had cell coverage but was working 12 hour days and then hanging out with friends the remainder of the time, so I got...a few texts, five minute phone calls...and I found out I rely on him more than I ever realized.

I do have memories of doing "special things" when my dad went on hunting trips (frozen pizza for dinner! a movie every night!...my dad did not like these things) but I can only imagine how it was for my mom with five kids and no cell phones.

Enjoy your special time alone with your kids, but I hope it goes fast for your sanity!

There is a chemical in chocolate called Theobromine. A stimulant similar to caffeine. Theobromine means "Food of the Gods". It is so called because of the effect it produces in the consumer.

I'm still eating them. The most recent Dove sayings are:

"Give of yourself to someone who needs you." (I like that one)

"Forget the potholes in the road and celebrate the journey instead." (NICE!)

" Slow down today. Enjoy what you have."

Geesh. I think I see a pattern, Dove makers. Trying to tell me something?

Shane used to go on a yearly week long golf outing. Used to call home a couple x's a day and it pissed me off because he's all like having a blast...and I'm left to deal with everything by myself.

I've often thought of taking a week 'jaunt' myself, but money doesn't allow...not to mention I can't imagine him keeping everything together without me for a week, lol.

Enjoy your chocolates...
:0)
Gosh, I can't even imagine being in a cabin for a whole week...with no phone yet! Bleh! lol

Rich was working out of town a lot a couple of years ago and it always made me thankful for when he got back. I never realized how much I counted on him being there when I needed to step away until he wasn't there. Those times always made me grateful there were two of us doing this parenting gig.

Mmmmmmm. chocolate.

I always have to psych myself up for single parenthood as well. It is a very different mindset. Take the chocolate and the advice. He'll be back soon...

I was already cracking up and then you posted the dove update in the comments. I could eat a whole bag of those things. Matt wouldn't even have to be gone.

My husband travels for work. I'm going to have to get me some Dove chocolates. I love to self medicate :)

Hang in there, lady. It IS hard. I hope it flies by...

I can't imagine being away from my husband for a week. The chocolate is definitely called for. Not like I need an excuse to eat lots of Dove bars, but it's always nice to have one.

I like to think of challenge as opportunity. It makes a world of difference. (I know the feeling of "Daddy gone." At one point, I had four kids in Washington DC while my husband lived and worked in Pittsburgh -- it took him almost two years to find a job in DC after I had been employed there.) Hang in there! It gets better!

I always have to gear myself up for when hubs goes out of town as well. I don't know how single mothers (and dads) do it.
